Top 10 anime list, since I get asked for it every now and then:
- Air
Anime’s most perfect example from direction to script, derived from powerful and moving source material. Wonderful beginning even if slightly contrived to fit the genre framework, perfect from the middle to the end. - Honey and Clover
Wonderfully and masterfully done adaptation of the best manga series released to date. Superior direction captures the feel of the original even while putting it into motion. - Planetes
Philosophical, thoughtful, incredible attention to detail, steady level of top-tier aesthetic quality, and the best ending ever animated. - Suzumiya Haruhi
Superior studio pushes mediocre material to excellence. Top-tier in every way; there’s a reason why people will forever associate the VA’s with their SOS Dan roles. - Ouran
Parody humor and general antics of the Host Club are captured and directed beautifully. Thoughtful direction pulls off wonderful effects. Oh, and Maaya Sakamoto instantly makes things cooler… even if she’s not singing. - Cardcaptor Sakura
Far better than insecure people want to admit it to be. Something for everyone, high and stable quality for a longer series. Hanyan, hoe, release! - Eureka Seven
Very stable and high-tier animation for a longer series, superior creative concept and development. Episode twenty-six right in the middle is probably the most powerfully directed episode ever animated. - Evangelion
The beginning of an animation revolution. The former leading edge is still quite good in the context of today, which says something about its standard of quality. - Nadesico
Parody that proves that they are better than the “real thing.” Once again, a little bit of everything. Abrupt ending, but forgivable in context. - Kamichu!
Simple story animated beautifully with vivid attention to detail.
Honorable mention to Karekano. And anything else I think of in the future.
And あんこ入り☆パスタライス!
